Artists in Residence in the WHSCT


Seliena Coyle 

Seliena is a jewellery designer, curator and educator with over 25 years’ experience in the field. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, she studied BDes(Hons) Jewellery and Silversmithing at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee before joining the intensive jewellery training program facilitated by the Crafts Council of Ireland in Kilkenny. She went on to complete an MFA at Indiana University, Bloomington and further training with the Crafts Council of Ireland in their Craft and Design Business Development Program. In 2000 Seliena established a workshop in her hometown of Derry. She has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. She has held several teaching positions including Professor of Metals and Jewelry at Savannah College of Art and Design, Head of Metals, National College of Art and Design, Dublin and most recently lecturer at Ulster University. Seliena has extensive experience within the community art sector having worked with multiple agencies including Artlink, A Space 2, Creative Schools, The Playhouse and Arts Care.  


CARMEL GARVEY

Carmel Garvey Dancer-in-Residence and Choreographer/ Project Artist, Belfast and Western Health and Social Care Trusts. Carmel has 30 years’ experience in Dance and Education which she brings to her role in healthcare. She has a Master’s First-Class Honours Degree in Dance and Health (University of Limerick) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Dance (U.L.). In addition, she holds a Diploma in Hatha Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga Alliance U.K., Laban Guild Primary and Advanced Contemporary Dance Training, Fitness Northern Ireland Dance to Music Training, National Diploma Performing Arts. Carmel has 12 years’ experience as Arts Care’s Dancer in Residence, Choreographer and Project Artist. Carmel delivers her practice into wards and services including Older People and Disability. She is passionate about integrating the message of ‘Inclusion’ within her work and delivers this message through her work with Arts Care’s Dance Companies; Orbit, Kompany Maine, Inclusion Dance, and Lisnaskea Ladies. The Dance Companies perform at many Health/Community Events Carmel has achieved many accolades and awards in her career. One of her outstanding achievements as Director /Choreographer of ‘Castlederg Ladies Dance Company, was to bring the team through as three-time winners of the U.K. Championships. Performing at the, Royal Albert Hall, London.  


Genevieve Murphy

Genevieve is originally from Omagh, Co. Tyrone and Graduated from Nottingham University with a B.A.Hons Degree in Theatre Design. On Leaving college she joined a renowned props and costume company based in London, serving television and film production companies. Later Genevieve relocated to Dublin where she became a visual Art director for the First Children's Culture centre in Ireland, devising a wide range of visual art programmes and workshops. During this period she also began working within communities with Children and adults of all ages and abilities delivering exciting creative experiences in a wide range of mediums. She continues to work as a visual arts facilitator, now based in Co. Fermanagh. She is passionate about the Arts and the central purpose of her work, beyond being personally creative, is to promote and nourish the creative abilities, knowledge, Arts awareness and development of creative skills of both children and adults within our communities and other educational and professional contexts.


Michelle Young

Michelle is Arts Care's Writer in Residence for the WHSCT. A former teacher, with a degree in Psychology, Michelle is passionate about the power of writing and words to embrace wellness. She values the importance of nature, music, images and literature to help service users, of every ability, to tap into their senses, helping them to find their voice and to tell their stories. Michelle has worked for Arts Care for nine years. She also runs her own Creative Writing company, Ink Wing Academy. She is very involved with writing within educational settings in Northern Ireland, as well as within the community.
