Jill McKeown

Southern Health and Social Care Trust
Craigavon and Banbridge Area

For the past five years I have worked as ArtsCare artist in residence for The Southern  Health and Social Care Trust, in the Craigavon and Banbridge locality. The programs of care include people with physical disability, learning disability, dementia, mental health  and both elderly and children.  With each group I aim to let the patients or clients decide on the subject as this encourages engagement and confidence. Usually the artworks are permanent pieces created for display within the centres, so that those who have created them can see and admire them everyday.  To date we have worked on projects involving printmaking, painting, ceramics, mosaic and bookmaking.

Jill McKeown studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast receiving a BA (Hons) Combined Studies Art & Design in 1995 and an MA Fine & Applied Art in 1997. Since leaving college she has undertaken artists residencies in Wisconsin, Ohio, Maine, Seattle, New York, Washington DC, Connecticut, Venice, Italy Annaghmakerrig, Cushendall and Clo Ceardlann, Donegal. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Ireland, America, UK, Europe, Egypt, China and Japan.  She lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is a member of Seacourt Print Workshop where she teaches printmaking classes in photo-intaglio. In 2008 she received the Leonie King Mid-Career Artist Award at Impressions 2009.
