What does Arts Care do...?
In addition to 7 ClownDoctors and many project artists, Arts Care currently engages 21 Artists-in-Residence,
comprising a dancer, a musician, a graphic designer
and visual artists, who work in health and social care settings throughout Northern
Ireland. The artists work with;
- Older people
- People with physical disabilities
- People with learning difficulties
- People with mental health illnesses
- People with acute illnesses
- People in residential care.
By offering a wide range of activities we hope to be able to offer something
for everyone; from visual art to music; from sculpture to creative writing;
from crafts to dance.
Because art is non-competitive our artists work with residents of all
abilities in a safe, relaxed environment. Patients, clients and residents
work independently, at their own pace, and can take control of their projects
without feeling pressure to meet imposed standards. Many participants have
enjoyed increased confidence and experienced an improvement in their communication
and social skills, or simply discovered an interest or talent that was previously
unknown to them.
